Ideas About Creating Ideas
Ideas About Creating Ideas is the first book I have written about creativity. It features 73 principles that I have learnt during my career. Many things have changed since I started out, but the advice in this book remains relevant. So for the design of the book, I chose to use letterpress typography which is not only a passion of mine, but also something that has endured time.
Role: Art Direction / Design / Writing
Each page features advice presented in the form of a typographic print. Every design has been created from authentic wood and metal type that has been scanned from specimen sheets and digitally composed letter by letter.
The body copy throughout the book uses the typeface Caslon Doric, a newly digitised font from Commercial Type.
It had the feel I was looking for to compliment the various larger wood forms and has beautiful characters, particularly the lowercase r, y & g.
The first appearance of the sans form in a metal typeface was cut for William Caslon IV around 1816.
Ideas About Creating Ideas is available to purchase on Amazon. You can also buy a deluxe and extra deluxe version from my website along with prints.
